Yesterday we told you about the satellite Rankin County Tax office on Lakeland Drive.   Today we present a few details about taxes.

Many dollars flow to the county through tax revenue and the people around The Rez pay a large portion of the total.

The majority of the Rez area is in District 2 of Rankin County, here are a few stats you may find interesting.

  • 2009 est. population for District 2, approximately 31,800, 23% of the total.
  • 2009 car tag revenue for the county was $3,960,752.
  • 2009 car tag revenue for district 2 was $1,634,576, 41% of the total.

OK. A bit deceiving of a presentation. Did you take into account what Ad Valorem taxes are paid on? Boats? So you can lop off a percentage of your "I pay too many taxes" argument. Then, take a look at the price of the cars you buy. Lop off a bigger percentage. Not everyone needs to have an SUV or can afford a $75K+ car. Hmmm... I'm sure there is more, but this is just a start.

I almost forgot, lets also consider that 20K Harley most "I need to relive my youth, no I'm not going through a crisis" folks buy in their 50's.
