Turtle Day

Come out of your shell and walk over to the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science to visit with some of our favorite reptilian friends at our First Annual Turtle Day!

Jackson, Miss. – The Mississippi Museum of Natural Science is celebrating the Year of the Turtle on July 5 from 9am – 1 pm. Museum staff will present live specimens and interesting facts about Mississippi’s native and endangered turtles from 9am – noon. Plus, meet “Turtle Boy”, our teen volunteer, as he talks about his favorite critter.

Then, from noon-1 pm, Gopher Tortoise Biologist Matthew G. Hinderliter will present, “Where are All the Little Gopher Tortoise Burrows?”, an investigation of the daily lives of juvenile Gopher Tortoises on Camp Shelby to discover what can be done to protect them in their early years.
