Possible Drowning At Spillway

Emergency responders are searching for a possible drowning victim below the Spillway.

The 911 call was logged at 11:33pm Thursday night.  Searchers worked until 2:30am Friday morning before calling off the search. They resumed operations at 6:00am this morning.

Emergency personnel from the Rankin County Sheriff's office, Reservoir Patrol, Reservoir Fire Department and the Department of Wildlife Fisheries and Parks responded to the call.

Chief of the Reservoir Patrol, Perry Waggener, said the victim was 54 year old Daniel Boyd of Jackson.  He was fishing on the bank when he fell into the water.

Fishermen nearby attempted a rescue but were unsuccessful.

One of Mr. Boyd's fishing acquaintances said he loved to crappie fish below the spillway and came there often.

The accident occurred on the Rankin County side of the Spillway.

Rest in peace, Mr. Boyd. So sad but he obviously died doing what he loved to do.
