Chimneyville Crafts Festival: A Holiday Tradition

Jackson--Their crafts have spanned generations. Now, you can meet these extraordinary master craftsmen when more than 190 of them converge upon Jackson for the 35th Anniversary of the Chimneyville Crafts Festival, sponsored by the Craftsmen's Guild of Mississippi. Named the "Best Festival of the year by the Mississippi Tourism Association at the Governor's Conference on Tourism, the event is continuously named a Top Twenty Event in the Southeast by the Southeast Tourism Society, as well.

The annual Festival Preview Party will be held Friday, December 2, 2011, from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., $50 donation. The Chimneyville Excellence in Craft Awards will be presented at the Preview Party with cash awards for honored craftsmen. Three craftsmen will be chosen by a panel of judges to receive the Grand Excellence in Craft Award, the Heritage Award, and the Emerging Artist Award.

A demonstration village of master craftsmen showing their work and skills will be held during the festival and a food court is available for snacks and meals to purchase. After the Festival, these craftsmen will be showcasing their holiday work at the Mississippi Craft Center, 950 Rice Road, Ridgeland, and at the Fondren Corner Gallery, 2906 North State Street, Jackson.

This year's Chimneyville Crafts Festival will take place Saturday-Sunday, December 3-4, 2011, from 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Saturday and Noon-5pm, Sunday, at the MS Trade Mart, located on the State Fairgrounds, Jackson, MS. Admission $10, adults, children under 12, free. Approximately 10,000 people attend the festival each year. It is a “stroller-friendly” show.
