PRVWSD Proposes New Ordinances

The Board of Directors for the Pearl River Valley Water Supply District is moving forward with a set of new ordinances for District property and amending a few existing ones.

Before any changes become law the new rules have to be published by the Mississippi Secretary of State's Office for a 30 day period.

During that time the public will have a chance to comment on the proposed changes.  After the comment period the PRVWSD Board will meet and take a final vote on the changes, that meeting will likely be in March. (TRN will post the meeting date later)

At this time the procedure for public comments has not been set but we will publish that info as soon as it is available.

Here are a few of the proposed changes:

  • Prohibit glass containers on any public PRVWSD property
  • Prohibit rope swings on PRVWSD public property
  • Set distance restrictions around Lowhead Dam
  • Amended the rules for use of primitive weapons on PRVWSD property
  • Amended the rules for possession of alcohol in public parks (sec. 3.7.5)
  • Established parking restrictions for some commercial trucks
  • Created an ordinance regulating the use of "PODS" (portable storage units)
  • Amended the ordinance dealing with political signs

The complete list of changes can be seen HERE.

Ok by me. My kids grew up swinging on rope swing. But I can understand outlawing the rope swing because of risk.

The International Property Maintenance Code is generally good, but it has a lot of problem areas (IMO), here are a few:

-Exterior door locks shall be readily openable from the side from which egress is to be made without the need for keys

-Address numbers shall contrast with their background, and shall be a minimum of 4 inches high with a minimum stroke width of 0.5 inch

-Special requirement for pool fences and latches.

They may want to recheck their wording on some of those. One of them makes it a crime to "SWING" on any park property, hence making it illegal to use the swingset near the YMCA in the park area. It states swinging over land or water.

Scary new laws...

Wow. The more I read of these the scarier it gets. It would make it illegal for me to sit inside my vehicle on any park property. So if I am at the Pelahatchie Shore boat ramp, and park in a space to eat my lunch, or to wait on a friend to come pick me up in a boat, they can ticket and fine me!

Wow! Everyone please follow the link and read these crazy laws they are enacting.

The part of not being able to eat lunch in your car on a rainy, hot, cold or windy day is just stupid. Why don't these idiots just close the parks and the rez and go home without a job. After all, the rez is what is paying them.
