Waterfest 2012

Saturday April 21

An annual event that spotlights the importance of water quality at the Ross Barnett Reservoir is set for April 21 at Old Trace Park. Organized by the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality and several partners, WaterFest features educational exhibits, free food, live music, activities for children and more.
  • The sixth annual event runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m
  • The event will feature a kayak race at 9:30 a.m.
  • Recycle fashion show for kids at 11:30 a.m.
“The Gator Bait Paddlers Association is organizing the kayak races, which begins at 9:30 a.m. for check in and registration, said David Moore, Gator Bait’s lead. “Kayakers will be split into two races – a three-mile suitable for young or beginning paddlers and a nine-mile race for experienced paddlers. The race is open to all human-powered craft (row boats, kayaks, multi-person row boats).”  For more on the race, visit or call (410) 212-9994.

Gator Bait will also have a display with kayaking equipment and provide paddling instructions for kids.
