National Police Week

Message from the FBI

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which it falls as National Police Week. This year, as thousands of law enforcement officers from around the world gather in Washington, D.C. to honor colleagues who have made the ultimate sacrifice, the FBI joins with the rest of the country in paying tribute as well.

Local activities:


The Jackson Police Department is holding a Memorial Service in memory of our fallen officers and in honor of all law enforcement officers. The Memorial Service is on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at 10:00 am in front of the Jackson Police Department. Luncheon will follow, sponsored by The Jackson Police Department Central MS Crime Stoppers and the MS Center for Police and Sheriffs, at 11:30 am at the Trademart.

The Veterans Administration Police will be holding a memorial in honor of their fallen officers at the V.A. Hospital at 11:00 am Monday May 14, 2012

The Mississippi Highway Patrol will have a memorial in honor of their fallen officers on Wednesday May 16, 2012 at 10:00 am at their headquarters on Woodrow Wilson.

The Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics will have a memorial in honor of their fallen officers on Wednesday May 16, 2012 at 2:30 pm at their headquarters on I 55 south.

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks will have a memorial in honor of their fallen officers on Thursday May 17, 2012 at 9:00 am at their headquarters on Eastover Drive in Jackson.
