Seat Belt Violation Nets $69K

News from the Mississippi Department of Safety

A traffic stop about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday resulted in the seizure of $69,000 cash. Troopers of the Criminal Interdiction Team found the money stashed in the rear quarter panels of a 2008 Chrysler Pacifica. The stop was made in the westbound lane of I-20 near mile marker 68 (Pelahatchie Exit).

When the driver began to act in a suspicious manner, troopers got consent to search the vehicle. The cash, in small denominations, was wrapped in plastic packets and coated with diesel grease.

“We were able to seize the money under the laws governing proceeds believed associated with illegal drug activity,” said MHP Director Colonel Donnell Berry. “We know the illegal activity is out there every day and so are these troopers who specialize in identifying this activity.”
