Rankin School Board Meets Wednesday

The meeting this week is likely to have some fireworks.  At the RCSD's last meeting the board voted 3 to 2 to work toward settlement of a lawsuit between the District and the City of Pearl.  Members Cecil McCrory, Grumpy Farmer and Ruth Burgess voted for the settlement with Ann Sturdivant and Debbie Tolleson opposing.

The issue is land in the El Dorado Road and Patrick Farms area that was annexed by Pearl but remains in the Rankin School District - Pearl wants the land in their separate school district.

Representatives from Pearl spoke at the last meeting in support of a settlement but opponents of the settlement claim they were unaware the board was going to vote on a settlement.  In a unanimous vote last November, the board agreed to hire attorneys and defend the lawsuit.

We've heard that petitions are being signed and a vocal group will attend the meeting to express their displeasure with the recent board action.
