Man Killed In One Car Crash

News From The Rankin County Sheriff's Department

A Carthage man died in a one vehicle traffic accident on Andrew Chapel Road in Rankin County when his 2008 Chevy Colorado pickup truck left the roadway and crashed into a creek some twenty feet below the roadway.

Family members notified the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department around 8:40 pm, July 3rd, when Mr. Brelan Alexander, 83 years old, was passed his scheduled arrival time. The family began searching the route Mr. Alexander was expected to take but was unable to locate him.

Family members were able to utilize AT&T’s “Family Map” feature to determine Mr. Alexander’s last known location was somewhere on Andrew Chapel Road. Deputies then called on the assistance of the Metro One helicopter to conduct an aerial search while deputies conducted a ground search.

At approximately 1:00 am July 4th, Mr. Alexander’s vehicle was located by sheriff’s deputies where he had wrecked into the creek. The final resting place of the crashed vehicle made it extremely unlikely that passing motorist would have been able to see it. Mr. Alexander succumbed to the injuries he sustained during the accident.
