News From The Rankin
County Sheriff's Department

On Thursday August 2nd at approximately 3:30 pm Rankin County Deputy Rebecca Goldman made contact with a stolen silver Chrysler passenger car on Shiloh Road just outside the Brandon city limits.

Deputy Goldman attempted to stop the vehicle near the intersection of Shiloh road and Deer Ridge Road. The driver attempted to evade the deputy and fled south on Deer Ridge Road which is a dead end road. When the suspect made it to the end of the Deer Ridge Road it crashed through a metal gate and then through a barbed wire fence.

The vehicle continued to flee into a field where it crashed into a gully. The driver of the vehicle, later identified as Stefan Tyron Bibb, exited the vehicle and fled on foot. A female and two other young adult males were apprehended at the vehicle.

Several law enforcement agencies responded to assist the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office with the hunt for Bibb. The Mississippi Highway Patrol, Brandon Police Department, Flowood Police Department, Pearl Police Department, Richland Police Department, U.S. Marshal’s Task Force, Pelahatchie Police Department along with Metro One Helicopter all responded and assisted in setting up a perimeter and searching for the suspect.

This morning at approximately 7:15 a.m. an observant citizen, who had seen a photo of the suspect in the local media, saw a suspect matching the description of Bibb walking east on Shiloh Road near the intersection of Mandy Drive. The citizen stopped a Brandon Police Officer and notified him. The officer immediately responded and arrested Bibb without resistance.

Bibb was transported to the Rankin County Jail where he is being charged with two counts of Felony Evasion, one count of Possession of Stolen Property and will have a hold for the State of Florida for Probation Violation on an Armed Robbery Charge. Bibb will appear in front of Rankin County Court Judge Kent McDaniel for an initial appearance.

This is a perfect example of how law enforcement, the media, and the public all work together to protect our citizens.

I am proud of the cooperative effort of all the law enforcement officers involved. It is the dedication of these men and women that keep Rankin County safe.
