Rez Firefighters Planning 9/11 Tribute

News From The
Reservoir Fire Department

Some of you may remember that several local Fire Departments and civilians groups met at Reservoir Fire Station 1 (on Sept. 11, 2011) to set out on a 9/11 Memorial Run/Walk, we began at Station 1 (on Spillway Road) and worked our way around the Pelahatchie Bay area for a total of 11 miles!

Almost all of the Firefighters completed this tremendous feat in their bunker gear and carrying American Flags - all to show their support for our GREAT Nation!

This was WELL received in the community and turned out to be a Chill Bump raising event - tons of people have asked us to do it again.

So, we will.

This year on 9/9/12 (Sunday) we are going to be putting on the same run/walk along with an event to remember at Lakeshore Park - events at the Park will begin at 1pm.

There will be a kids fun run around the park along with face painting, inflatable jumpies , food, sno cones, a band playing and much much more! We are looking for a great turnout and we would love to get as many Firefighters and civilians to come out and join us as possible! We would love to have you run with us, but if you would rather just come out to the event or stand along the run route and wave a flag that would be awesome too!!

If you want to run/walk but really aren’t sure about running the full 11 miles please come join us for whatever distance you want to run/walk. There is no charge for coming to hang out at the event in Lakeshore Park, the run/walk has a registration fee of $25 and the kids run is $10, you will receive a really cool shirt and goodie bag if you register to run.

All the proceeds from this are going directly to the building fund for the Joseph M Still Burn Center Lodge. Please know that you may join in anywhere along the route and run/walk and all that is required is an American Flag - no need to pay if you don’t want the shirt or goodie bag

Please help us spread the word.  Below is a link to a video that Shannon Sandridge put together for us from the run/walk last year, please take a moment to view it and tell your friends.

Look forward to seeing you there and ..DON’T FORGET TO BRING A FLAG!!!!!!!

It was a great event last year, and a great way to tech my daughter about what it means to be an American. Will definitely participate this year as well! Thanks for the great job!

What time does the run 11 miler start and is there a need to register in advance, or is registration allowed at the event?

Yes you may register at the event, or go to www.stmarksinfo.com and you can pre-register. The 11mile starts at 1:30....thanks for asking!

Are the firefighters going to be running in full gear again? I can probably make the route if they do.
