Area Halloween Happenings

- Haunted House.  Lake Harbor Fire Department is having a haunted house this Friday and Saturday.  The frights begin at dark and stop when the last body leaves.  Admission is $5 a person, and there will be a concession stand available in case you lose your supper.  Take the Goshen Springs or Sandhill Exit from Lakeland Drive/Hwy 25, and follow the signs.  Click the link for more details.

- Dark Zone Haunted House.  This weekend, the Exchange Club of Crossgates hosts Dark Zone behind Rogers Dabbs Chevrolet.  Park at the soccer fields and a haunted hay ride will guide you to the fun.  $8 admission this weekend.  They also have light concessions.  I hear folks are dying to go.  Click the link for more details.

- Boo at the Zoo.  The Jackson Zoo is hosting its annual Boo at the Zoo.  This Friday and Saturday, the Jackson Zoo transforms into a "merry, not scary" party.  Entertainment on the main stage, face painting, hay rides, carnival games, and, of course, the animals!  You are encouraged to come dressed  in your costume.  The kids will have a great time.  For Zoo members, its $7 (adults) and $4 (ages 3 to 12); non Zoo members, its $12 (adults) and $8.75 (3 to 12); all children 2 and under are free.

- Kids Night Out.  See previous post, below.

- Fit 2 Lead 5k Race.  The YMCA holds its annual costumed 5K race at the Flowood YMCA, on Saturday morning, October 27.  If you haven't already registered, get to the Flowood Y by 7 a.m. to register.  The race starts at 8 a.m.  Race day registration fee is $25, but you can still get the early bird registration fee of $20, if you register online at www.active.com.

- Cadaver Course 5k.  I'm not joking about this one.  The Mississippi State Medical Association organized this 5K race, where zombies will actively chase race participants along the race route.  Guaranteed to improve your personal best time.  This one starts at 7 a.m. on Saturday, October 27, at the MSMA building at 408 West Parkway Place, Ridgeland.  Props to the MSMA for creative fundraising.  Here's a link to their facebook page.

Y'all get outside and enjoy this beautiful weather!
