Local Teacher Wins $25,000 Award

Reservoir resident, and Brandon native, Sabrina Morgan, is this year's Mississippi winner of the Milken Education Award.  Sabrina is a first grade teacher at Pearl Lower Elementary.  This award resulted from Sabrina's work in setting up a program challenging students at the elementary school to read 10,000 books in a month.  The honor comes with an unrestricted check for $25,000.

The Milken Education Award is a national program, described by Teacher Magazine as "the Oscars of Teaching."  The award is funded and presented by the Milken Family Foundation who, to date, has given over $63 million in awards to teachers who go above and beyond.  It's sort of a big deal.

Read the Clarion Ledger's write up here.  Video of the surprise announcement can be found there, or at the Milken Family Foundation website.  Great stuff!
