Fight at Old Trace Park Spurs Fee

I caught this story on www.wapt.com concerning Pearl River Valley Water Supply District's decision to reinstate fees to access the parks on the weekends.  $3 per car.  This decision was spurred by a horrific fight at Old Trace Park in Ridgeland last week, the video of which can be seen here.

I don't know what to think about this decision.  I don't relish PRVWSD charging a fee on the Rankin side.  This was a Ridgeland fight, dealing with, presumably, Ridgeland people; Rankin County appears to have a better grasp of dealing with these types of incidents.  Charging a fee only at Old Trace Park would certainly cut down on the possibility of fights like this only at Old Trace Park. However, what is to keep the riff-raff from driving over the Spillway so they can fight for free?

I can tell you this, the PRVWSD is correct is taking action to nip this thing in the bud immediately.  Whether you agree or not with the fee, the PRVWSD should be applauded for quickly doing something.  What are your thoughts?

I think that residents of the area who pay leasehold fees should be given a sticker for their car and therefore be exempt from the fee.

PRV leaseholders should NOT be required to pay. Ridiculous.
Will the folks going to play tennis or soccer be required to pay?

I've got a better idea- how about these socalled "Reservoir Police" who we pay for go and patrol the parks more instead of sitting at the corner convenience store?

I see no problem with paying a fee. The funds can be used to help with improvements on the parks and it helps to keep worthless humans out...key word "helps".

How would the fees be collected? Would there be a central location to pay the fee and receive a pass? Like at the state fair where you buy tickets and then proceed to the ride. Or would pay stations be erected at each facility, which means toll collectors earning 8 - 10 dollars an hour.
Since this incident took place in Ridgeland, I have an idea the R.P.D. will be patrolling that area more frequently and running off anyone that has that appearance of gathering to loiter.
For instance, a group of 20 or so South Jackson folks who use terms as "grille" for teeth, or "stay" for live or reside, are not at the reservoir lookout area for the sole purpose of taking in or enjoying the scenery. Which naturally restricts anyone who actually wants to go to a lookout area to enjoy the reservoir.

I say we Rez residents put up a wall around the PRV land with a moat filled with gators and prevent anyone who doesn't lease land from using anything to do with PRV land.

A $3 fee will do nothing to keep the metro center and north park takeover thugs out. Make it $20 and exempt residents with a sticker. This group is coming in from Jackson. They've taken over with their antics. Its bad when I can be 100yards off lakeshore and still hear their profane nonsense.

Drove through today at Lakeshore and saw no one collecting $
