Flowood Municipal Elections Information

The City of Flowood holds non-partisan elections, meaning the candidates do not run as Republican, Democrat, Tea Party, etc.  As a result, unlike the City of Pearl, there will be no primary election on May 7.  Instead, all candidates will be listed on the ballot at the general election held June 4.  Voter registration for the general election ends at noon May 4.

Mayor Rhoads and Ward 3 Alderman Kirk McDaniel escape without contests; however, the remaining races may shape up to be interesting.

In Ward 4, the Mayor's son, Dusty, is the incumbent.  He is being challenged by Ronnie Bagwell, the former Battalion Chief of the Flowood Fire Department.

In Ward 2, former City Alderman Bob Shearer is running against the incumbent, Alderwoman Kathy Smith.

Incumbent Alderman Deron Harmon faces two challengers for the Ward 1 seat, Darrell K. Lindsey and Brenda Brown Marshall.

Most of the candidates have published announcements in the Rankin County News, containing information on their positions on issues and visions for the future.

I believe the Alderman at large position held by Donald Flynt does not have a opponent.

BTW he is the son of the first Flowood Mayor Chastain Flynt

Kathy Smith is a horrible alderman. She does nothing for the city of Flowood and you can never get in touch with her until election year. I also find it funny how in my subdivision of Laurelwood, you are not supposed to have political signs in the yard, yet Kathy Smith has a bunch of them. DO NOT VOTE FOR KATHY SMITH, SHE DOES NOTHING!!!

Disagree James Glover

I know Kathy Smith to be a very good alderman!

I go to the meetings and listen to her address the issues.

On the yard signs, I believe her property fronts an open and thru street.
she has always returned my call.
