Question For the Readers

Lately, the Flowood police has been blocking one of the turn lanes on Flowood Drive, preventing folks from using it to turn left onto Old Fannin Road.  Good or bad?  It's helped rush hour congestion at that intersection, or made it worse?  Discuss.

I've always thought we should have a police presence at that intersection, just not for that purpose.

Its a waste of police time and manpower.
If I go to the gas station or the row of shops on Old fannin Road, or the library I want to use that lane(blocked by the Cops) to avoid slowing Fannin Road traffic down when I turn in to the right.
What they appear to be doing is attemptng to speed the north bound flow of traffic up.If the speed is reduced the number of accidents will decline, and the traffic will flow at 30 to 35 miles an hour. The question of merging traffic adjacent to the churh has worked fairly well, everyone who lives in the area knows it goes to a single lane and makes allowance for that.Of course the occasional idiot rushes up the right hand lane and cuts in, but as my old Sgt/Major in the Army said, you ca'nt educate pork.
The more interference by police the lower the traffic flow goes

There is no such thing as a waste of Flowood police power. Flowood PD is rolling in money (as is the rest of the city.

Old Fannin Rd is at limited capacity because of the construction. By limiting the double turn lane, they are accommodating the congestion. I imagine if they were not doing that, then the double turn lane would clog and block the intersection,

all they are accomplishing is mooving the congestion from Old Fannin to Flowood Dr.

I'd rather be discussing how we can get all of the traffic using Old Fannin as a connector between Lakeland and SPillway to use Hugh Ward, which is MUCH FASTER, so I can get in and out of my neighborhood on Old Fannin without all of the THROUGH traffic blocking it up...

If I didn't live on Old Fannin, I wouldn't travel it until the construction is over, but humans are creatures of habit.

As far as the FPD, they are doing a wonderful job of keeping the traffic moving. The mass number of idiots that fly up and force merge over causes wrecks, road rage, and for the people who do it the RIGHT WAY to have to stop to let the idiots in and this backs the traffic up... Stopping the rude people who can't wait in line keeps a better flow to the traffic...
