The Search for Abigail Bonner (Updated Yet Again)

                                 "O Gertrude, Gertrude,
When sorrows come they come not singles spies,
But in battalions."

****** 8/16/13

We were blessed and our lives enriched to have Abigail for 17 years. Abigail was joyful, pensive, generous, and a source of joy in our family. She loved the Lord and her family. She had joy in music, and loved to play and sing hymns - whether at home or in the congregation. She often found ways to do special things or to make special gifts for a sister or brother. Abigail was also drawn to the lonely and forgotten. One of her favorite activities was spending time at The Home Place in Madison, helping with the choir, and visiting with the residents there. Abigail would want everyone that knew her to look to the Savior, Jesus Christ, who with abundant mercy and grace forgives and receives all who trust in Him for righteousness. She will be greatly missed by us and her siblings, Hannah, Emily, Andrea, Andrew, and Rebekah, and her grandparents, James and Brenda Kennedy of Slaughter, Louisiana, and Joe and Barbara Bonner of Oklahoma City, and extended family. Abigail will be buried in a small private family burial. The visitation is Friday, Aug 16 at 9:30am at First Presbyterian Church in Jackson, Mississippi, followed by the funeral service at 11am. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be sent to First Presbyterian Church for the work of international missions.

UPDATE - 8/14/2013 8:50 AM Central

With heavy hearts, while we are still waiting on the Madison County Coroner’s final report, from what we have been told we are now confident that the body found yesterday was Abigail.

We are stunned, heartbroken, and grieving.
Please pray for the peace of God that surpasses all understanding for Lance and Rachel and all of the children. Abigail loved Christ with all her heart, and we know that she is with Him now. While we are left here in grief and sorrow, we cling to Christ’s promises that Abigail is now where He has wiped away every tear and where there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. We are completely overwhelmed and humbled by the countless number of individuals that have donated their time searching for Abigail, putting up signs, calling friends, bringing food, providing encouraging words, offering up many prayers, etc.

We cannot thank you enough.

**** 8/14/13 update from WAPT

Investigators indicate the body found in the woods across from Madison Elementary is that of Abigail, though a positive ID has not been made public.  WAPT's coverage here.  So sad and tragic.

- In order to clarify some questions many of you are asking, we do not know where she is, if she is with anyone, if she is hurt, in need or even still alive. We have not had communication with her or anyone on her behalf. It appears she did leave voluntarily, but to the best of our knowledge, she did not take her purse, her money, her debit card, cell phone or clothes.
- If you have specific questions, message us here on this page or email us at

Thank you all for these great questions. Please do not give up. Please share and re-post. Together will find Abigail. If anyone has any information, please contact the Madison Police at 601-856-6111.

** 8/7/13 update from WAPT News

MADISON, Miss. —Madison police said Tuesday that they believe a 17-year-old girl "left home of her own free will," according to a news release from the department.

Bonner was reported missing Saturday by her parents, who offered a reward of up to $25,000 for their daughter's safe return.
Police said the investigation incorporated social media, which included a Facebook and webpage started by the family. Residents with information about the case were also asked to call Crime Stoppers, police said.
Based on the new information, police have reclassified Bonner's status from missing to runaway with the National Criminal Information Center.
Police said investigators remain focused on Bonner's safe return and continue to ask that anyone with information about her whereabouts call Crime Stoppers at 601-355-TIPS.

Looking for Abigail
August 5, 2013 - 3:00 PM

We need everyone's help to please share this post, re-post this on your Timelines and ask everyone of your friends, family members and colleagues in the New York/New Jersey and surrounding areas to be on the lookout for Abagail (see the map on this post).

We received information that seems to indicate that if Abagail is not in Madison or nearby, she may have made her way to the New York / New Jersey area.

We are still continuing our search throughout Madison/Jackson because the information we received is not conclusive but it is sufficiently valid to ask for focused help from people in New York and New Jersey.

On a personal note, Abigail Bonner is missing.  Abigail and her family sit right in front of my family at Church. I don't know much other than she disappeared Saturday morning from her family's home in Madison, Mississippi.  There is a significant reward of $25,000.00 for the safe return of Abigail.

Facebook Page, tons of information there.
