Middle School Essay Contest

Every year, the Capital Area Bar Association hosts an essay contest for area 7th and 8th graders.  The essay topic this year is "Should a school be allowed to discipline students for their Facebook, Twitter or other social media posts?  Why or why not, and what laws are at issue?"

There are two big incentives to participate:  1) Cash prizes are awarded to the top three award winners; and 2) the winner reads his or her essay at a monthly meeting of the Capital Area Bar Association at the Capital Club.

Essay participation packets are being delivered to Rankin County Schools.  Hopefully, teachers will encourage our students to participate.  I hope parents will encourage your 7th and 8th grade children to participate as well.  I'd love to have a great showing from Rankin County.  The packet is below:
