This Week at the Rez

This week's email verbatim:

·         About 25 Barnett Reservoir bass fishermen recently took 172,000 passengers for short boat rides, and it’s a possible return trip they long to make. It was part of a joint program between the fishermen, the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks, and the Pearl River Valley Water Supply District to stock pure-strain Florida bass in the 33,000-acre lake. The fishermen were used to transport the 6-week old fingerling fish raised at the MDWFP’s Turcotte Hatchery to favorable habitat in the upper river, main lake and Pelahatchie Bay areas where survival rates will be enhanced. “I just hope this isn’t the only boat ride I share with some of these bass,” said Dudley Salers, one of the anglers who participated. ·         The Barnett Reservoir Foundation is assisting in collection of registered voters signatures on the petition to allow PRVWSD lands in Rankin County to qualify for Resort Status.   A “DRIVE THRU AND SIGN” event will take place on Wednesday, May 28th from noon until 8:p.m. at Scenic Drive Park (between Turtle Creek and Forest Point off of Spillway Rd).  Residents are urged to drive thru the booths set up on site and sign the petition.

·         The Gator Bait Hatchlings Race will take place at Lakeshore Park on May 31st.  For more information on the kayak event and the Gator Bait Paddlers organization, visit:
