It's the End of the World as We Know It and I Feel Fine

Traffic lights being erected all down Old Fannin Road.  Life, as we know it, is about to change.  Wouldn't it be great if the road construction were finished by Christmas?  Reader, Chris Merck points out that bases for these stoplights have been put on at Barnett Bend II, Bridlewood, Farmington Station, Oak Grove, and Avalon.  That's what we have so far.

This sounds like typical traffic "improvement" thinking: Add 2 lanes to improve traffic flow, and then add 5 stop lights to impede traffic flow. Go figure...

I hope somebody has the common sense to "time" the lights where when one light stops traffic on Old Fannin, they ALL stop traffic on Old Fannin Rd. and let the side streets enter Old Fannin. instead of catching red lights from block to block.

I've noticed something about road construction in MS.

it took over 22 YEARS to build ONE bridge...when TX took 2 years to build a 6tier mixmasher...

how many years have they been working on Old Fannin??

It's sad when out of state transportation people make comments about why does it take so long to do road construction in MS?

Well. Years back, Mayor Gary "Clogged" Rhoads decided to put in a new light each week. He's reached the limit of one per 1/4 mile on Highway 25, So now he has to clog Old Fannin. This works perfectly with building cheap tract houses in between Grants Ferry and Old Fannin (centerpiece the contractor paid for Roller Coaster Hugh Ward). No construction contract ever gets a second glance. Now, the piece de resistance is to "widen" 25 not where it could use it but from Grants Ferry to 471. Sheer genius our roads folks. No worries. The Board and Clogged Rhoads are on it!!!

and add Riverchase pole I spotted this week.
I think I recall reading here that 7 were planned.
Also, plan was to have walking sidewalks on each side.
Leftover space lookin scant for those.
What y'all think?

I'm not defending Mayor Rhoads on how many traffic signals are on Lakeland or if that's even his decision, but the city of Flowood ends where the new construction begins. All of the neighborhoods that line Old Fannin Road other than Laurelwood is in Brandon. You can Blame their mayor and city council for all that mess.

No they're not, they are at the Reservoir, no part of Old Fannin Rd. goes through Brandon, and has nothing to do with the mayor.

That would be our supervisor, Wood Brown. There are a couple of places where lights are certainly needed when five lanes of traffic are involved. I think five is excessive. And speaking of Hugh Ward . . . how do y'all like having to put your high beams on so you can see the road there?? That PID is such a joke.
