This Week at the Rez

Email from the PRVWSD below:

·         PRVWSD offices will be closed Friday, July 4th in accordance with Independence Day Holiday observation.

·         Officer Fred Coats has been selected as the new Campground Manager for Timberlake Campgrounds in Brandon, MS.   Officer Coats had been an officer of the PRVWSD Police Department for ten years prior to becoming assistant manager of Timberlake in 2013.

·         The Independence Day Celebration at the REZ was a great success this past Saturday.  We thank all who came out and were a part of the community celebration.  Be sure to visit the PRVWSD Facebook page and vote for your favorite parade entry for the Lighted Boat Parade’s Fan Favorite.

·         Striper time -  Oh yeah, it's hot on the water, but if you can take the heat, summer is a peak time for catching striped bass on the main lake at The Rez. Most of the time, the big fish, which this year are running 5 to 9 pounds, will let you know where they are when they start feeding on shad (a.k.a. "schooling") on the surface. The powerful splashes can be seen for over a mile. They will hit anything on top or any lure that can be worked fast just under the surface. When the fish are not blasting on top, another good method is trolling with Bandit 200 series or 300 series crankbaits along big contour changes (drops). Three good areas for that are the river channel edge off Twin Harbors, the drop off the flat at Fannin and off the dam. Trolling also allows you to keep the boat moving and stay cool.

·         If you don't have a boat, now is a good time to catch catfish. There is no bad place on the lake to catfish. Use cut bait, old shrimp or chicken liver and they will bite.
