Rankin Chancellors Flex Their Muscles

As reported in the Clarion Ledger, on September 9, 2014, the Rankin County Chancery Judges issued an Emergency Order (published below) whereby they directed the Rankin County Board of Supervisors to erect a new Chancery Courthouse.  Today, they amended the order (also below the jump) to remove language calling the decision to allocate $5 Million in public funds to the construction of a convention center in Flowood "repugnant".

Here is the only commentary I have:  As a Rankin County practitioner, we are well beyond the point where it is necessary for this County to build a new Chancery Courthouse. The Chancellors are in an even better position than I to hold this opinion. I imagine the only reason they would issue this opinion is if things are at the breaking point. I look forward to seeing the response from the Supervisors.

The supervisors need to purchase the abandoned bank building on Old College St. near Worley Dr. and move all the Justice Court offices there and then make adjustments to office assignments in the courthouse area to provide facilities to Chancery Court.

I'm feeling them on the convention center. Repugnant is being polite. If a convention center is going to make money, let the developer shoulder all of the risk. Do not put our tax dollars on the line. Hell, Dogwood still has lots of vacant retail and office space.

Build it all and raise taxes to pay for it. Rankin County should build it all AND put more money in their schools before we become the JPS outpost. You have to put your money where your home is and that is Rankin County! Fear the "For Rent" signs in your subdivisions and start investing your living area.

Grant & Fairly both have to run for re-election, we will see have the citizens react to their heavy handed tactics. BTW these two cried about wanting a Salary increase.
