Groundbreaking for Hwy 471 5 Lane Project--Updated

**UPDATE**  The question was asked in comments below when work would begin.  Per Kyle Brown, initial work has already begun, though the major construction will not begin until next month.  Per the bid presented by Joe Magee Construction, construction will take approximately 650 days.

The following is a press release from MDOT concerning the ground breaking for the Highway 471 expansion between Highway 80 and Grant's Ferry Road.  That stretch of Highway 471 will be five-laned with a new bridge over Interstate 20, and (here is the kicker) a new bridge over the railroad crossing at Value Road (Gold Coast).  This stretch is still a major artery between the county seat and the Reservoir area.

WHO:             The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT), Central Transportation Commissioner Dick Hall and the City of Brandon.

WHAT:          A groundbreaking ceremony will be held to announce a project that will five-lane a section of Highway 471 from U.S. 80 to Grants Ferry Road in Brandon, Miss. The project includes four travel lanes with a dedicated center turn lane, a new bridge over Interstate 20 and a bridge near Value Road that will elevate Highway 471 over the railroad.

WHERE:        North Brandon Church of Christ located at 1029 Highway 471 in Brandon, Miss.

WHEN:         Monday, February 23, at 11 a.m.
