Cougars Take on Brandon

The Clarion Ledger published a good article by Courtney Cronin on the man behind the curtain for the Northwest Rankin football team, Coach Toby Collums.  Read the article, Chasing NW Rankin's Toby Collums, in its entirety here.  A tasty morsel follows:

Northwest Rankin is off to its first 4-0 start since 2011. The Cougars host Brandon (3-1) tonight in a crosstown matchup in which they’ll face former coach Tyler Peterson and the No. 5 team in the state.
For the first time in years this game can actually be called what it is: a rivalry.
“Four or five weeks ago, people didn’t think this game would be big,” Cougars junior quarterback Braden Smith said. “We’ve worked for it. When people come out here Friday night we’re going to show them why we should be relevant in the state of Mississippi.”
Relevancy and stability are buzzwords used to describe the new era at Northwest Rankin since Collums arrived. The two go hand-in-hand.

The first four weeks undoubtedly whet a starved community’s appetite for wins, but Collums is careful to not put the cart before the horse.
“We want them to build confidence but we’re not getting overconfident about what we’ve accomplished,” he said. “We just want to keep building on that momentum.”
Tonight will be big for the Reservoir. If you can't make it to the game, watch it live at this link.
