Important Info on Rabies Vaccination Clinic This Saturday

The Mississippi Department of Health has confirmed that rabies was detected in a small, black and white, feral kitten found in downtown Starkville, MS. While rabies is commonly found in bats in Mississippi, the last known case in a land animal in the state was in 1961. Rabies is a viral disease that is completely preventable. 

The Rankin County Sheriff's Department, Rankin County Board of Supervisors and Mississippi Equine Sports Medicine will be hosting a rabies vaccination clinic on Saturday September 5, 2015 from 9:00am till 1:00pm. The clinic will be held at the Rankin County Tornado Safe Room and Multi Purpose Pavilion located at 651 Marquette Road in Brandon, MS. The cost for dogs, cats and ferrets is $5.00 each and horses are $10.00 each. If you need a updated coggins for a horse the cost is $17.00 each. 

Dogs must be on a leash and cats must be in a carrier. Horses must be in a halter and lead rope. There will be at least 200 doses available for dogs, cats and ferrets and 50 doses for horses. Dogs and cats are required to be vaccinated at 3 months of age, again one year later and every three years thereafter. If you can not make it to this low cost clinic, please do your part and schedule an appointment with your veterinarian. Vaccine must be administered under the supervision of a veterinarian.
