Below is the press release for the Lakeland Drive expansion. The groundbreaking ceremony is Friday at 10:30 a.m., in front of Lakeland Presbyterian Church. Thank goodness the expansion of Old Fannin Road was completed prior this.
Jackson, Miss.—The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) has announced plans for a lane expansion project on Highway 25 (Lakeland Drive) between Highway 475 and Grants Ferry Road in Rankin County.“Using federal aid, this expansion project will improve the road surface to provide smoother and safer travel for the public,” said Transportation Commissioner Dick Hall. “To maintain the safety of the public and MDOT crews and contractors, we ask that motorists use caution during the duration of this project.” The expansion project will begin October 8 and is scheduled for completion in fall 2017. The project will add one lane to each side of Lakeland Drive increasing it from four to six lanes. This will relieve traffic congestion and improve the road surface for the traveling public. The first phase of the project will involve creating a detour for the removal and lane replacement of the second northboundbridge over an old abandoned railroad line, and the preparatory work for the lane increase and shoulder widening. While the work is being performed, motorists should expect some delays; however, lane closures are restricted during peak times. “Out of ease and convenience for motorists, the contract limits lane closures during rush hour,” Commissioner Hall said.“Additionally, the contract restricts all construction during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday weekends.”The approximately $36.3 million construction contract was awarded to Superior Asphalt Inc. MDOT will hold a groundbreaking ceremony at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 9, 2015 at the Lakeland Presbyterian Church, 5212 Lakeland Drive, Flowood, MS.
