Hunting and Fishing Licenses Likely Increasing

Fishermen: It is likely your fishing license fees will increase following this session of the Mississippi legislature.  It's not just limited to fishing license fees, of course.  The proposed increase touches the Sportsman's license and All Game license fees as well.  Brian Broom of the Clarion Ledger reports the proposed increase passed the appropriate House committee.  The freshwater fishing license would increase $2 (to $10); the All Game license would increase $8 (to $25), and the Sportsman's license would increase $18 (to $50).

"Keep in mind, none of these have been raised in 23 years — since 1994," [House Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks Chairman, Representative Scott] Bounds said. "It's for more conservation officers, more fish and wildlife biologists and more WMA (wildlife management area) improvements. Anything in the fish and wildlife arena, that's where we intend for it to go."
Bounds explained that increased fees for non-resident licenses were not included in the bill because they can be dealt with elsewhere.
