Armed Standoff at the Rez

There was an armed standoff in the Bellegrove subdivision on March 6, 2017.  It began as a domestic incident, where Anthony Todd Payne, a former Marine, held his estranged wife and two-year old child at gun point in their home.  The wife contacted police by dialing 911 and then hiding the phone with an open line.  When Rankin Sheriff's officers arrived, Payne threatened to shoot them.  Eventually, Payne released his wife and child, then peacefully surrendered.  According to the Rankin County News, "When the suspect was patted down, it was found he had numerous magazines for an AR rifle on him."  His home contained numerous weapons and a gas mask.  The suspect was wearing a ballistic vest.

This could have been much worse.  Hats off to the brave men and women of law enforcement for resolving this matter without bloodshed.
