PROJECT REZWAY – RECYCLING
FASHION SHOW PLANNED MARCH 1 TO BENEFIT KEEP THE REZ BEAUTIFUL
Feb 9, 2018 Brandon, MS…Keep
The Rez Beautiful is about to show off its seventh annual event, Rezway , a
recycling fashion show and volunteer awards program that features the
importance of keeping the Ross Barnett Reservoir a clean and fun place to be.
The recycle fashion show
features a runway show in which designers and models make fashion statements. Seventy-five percent of each outfit must be
made of reusable, recyclable or repurposed items. Cash prizes are awarded to winners!
Project Rezway runs from 6:00
p.m.- 8:30 p.m. at the Mississippi Craft Center in Ridgeland. Tickets are $20 for each person 13 years and
up. Tickets for children from 5 to 12 are $10.
Kathryn’s Steakhouse of Jackson will provide
heavy hors d’ oeuvres. A crowd of approximately 250 typically attends, and the
event will also feature the Rezzy Awards presented to outstanding volunteers
and a silent auction.
“This is our 7th year for the
event and you would not believe the commonly discarded and vintage items that
can be incorporated into fashionable clothes,” said Debbie Veeder, Chairman of
Keep The Rez Beautiful. “We will also be presenting the Rezzy Awards to
volunteers who have given of their time to help make the Ross Barnett Reservoir
a cleaner and greener environment.”
Master of ceremonies host will
be Kim Allen from Miss 103. Sponsors
include Kathryn’s Steakhouse, the Mississippi Department of Environmental
Quality, and Nucor Steel, Mississippi Department of Transportation, PRVWSD,
Craftsmen’s Guild, and others.
Proceeds from the event help
sponsor clean ups, promote educational events and landscaping opportunities for
a cleaner and greener Ross Barnett Reservoir and Pearl River. As a 501c3 nonprofit organization, Keep the
Rez Beautiful makes sure to help other groups as well.
“Recycling is one of the
things we stress,” said Jeannine May, KRB Director. “ We work to reduce sediment in the water
from urban construction…”We have a lot of litter----water bottles, aluminum,
plastic, paper, a lot of things that can be recycled. It’s about education…putting litter in its
place. It’s about recycling what we
can. Our volunteers assisted us in 2017
in immeasurable ways such as cleaning up the Reservoir Lower Spillway area and
other areas that are constantly plagued by people who litter. Some will be honored at our event.”
KRB is dedicated to protecting and enhancing
the Reservoir watershed and its shoreline communities and neighborhoods. KRB covers all areas of the Reservoir, Upper
Pearl River including Rankin and Madison counties and is staffed by solely by
volunteers. For more information on

Recycling road kill can also be a great form of clothing, if you are into that Tarzan / Fred Flintstone look.
What about the new Shaggy's coming to the Rankin side of the Rez?
