Madison Landing closed March 1-3
for Bassmaster Open tournament

Residents and visitors should expect increased traffic

RIDGELAND — The Madison Landing boat ramp and parking lot at Barnett Reservoir will be closed to public traffic during the Bassmaster Central Open tournament March 1-3, the Pearl River Valley Water Supply District announced.

Residents and visitors to the area are also advised to expect increased traffic in the immediate area of Barnett Reservoir and Ridgeland in the predawn and late afternoon hours.

About 180 pro fishermen and a like number of amateurs will compete in the event, which is being hosted by the Ridgeland Tourism Commission at facilitated by the Barnett Reservoir Foundation.

To accommodate that many vehicles and trailers, parking for the amateurs, and the Bassmaster stage and other equipment, the launch will be closed from 12:01 a.m. on Thursday March 1 through 7 a.m. Saturday March 3. Only the top 12 pros and anglers are scheduled to fish the final round and public access will resume after those boats launch on Saturday. However, if weather forces a postponement of either Thursday or Friday, and the full field fishes on Saturday, the ramp will remained closed to the public until sunrise on Sunday morning.

This is the 13th Bassmaster event on Barnett Reservoir, and the fourth in five years, and it creates an economic boost to the area.

Weigh-ins are free and open to the public beginning at 2:30 on Thursday and Friday at Madison Landing. Saturday’s final weigh-in will be held at Bass Pro Shops in Pearl, unless weather forces a postponement on either Thursday or Friday. In that case, the final weigh-in on Saturday will be held at Madison Landing.
