Update on the Halfway House Situation

Further investigation at the source indicates the following:

First, this is not an Oxford House situation as previously feared.  The previously provided link to Jackson Jambalaya's Oxford House posts are irrelevant.  Instead, a group called Scioto is purchasing the home at 210 Swallow Drive, and leasing it to Oxford Healthcare.  All of the digging done by PRVWSD so far has indicated no connection between Oxford Home and Oxford Healthcare.  They appear to be two separate entities with no relation or affiliation.

Secondly, PRVWSD has been assured this is a residential home for "special needs" adults who are transitioning into the workforce.  This is not for criminals, drug addicts or alcoholics.

Third, this is not a legal battle PRVWSD feels it will win.  When approached, the PRVWSD challenged the ability of Scioto to acquire the house for this purpose.  However, the City of Petal recently was hammered by Scioto in Federal Court for challenging them.  Federal discrimination laws give protection to these types of housing situations.

PRVWSD will give the house and neighborhood heightened police scrutiny and oversight to make sure everyone is safe and to alleviate fears of danger.
