The Passing of Lt. Wayne Cockrell

There is a void left at the Reservoir with the passing of Lt. Wayne Cockrell.  Information on his arrangements is below:

We are deeply saddened to announce Lt. James "Wayne" Cockrell passed away this morning while preparing for duty. Wayne was a 22 1/2 year veteran of the Reservoir Police Department. He was 50 years old.
Visitation will be Thursday, August 30, 2018 from 6 PM until 8 PM at Lakeside Presbyterian Church, 2070 Spillway Road, Brandon, Mississippi 39047.
Funeral Services will be Friday, August 31, 2018 at 2 PM also at Lakeside Presbyterian Church with burial at Lakewood Memorial Park, 6000 Clinton Boulevard, Jackson, Mississippi immediately following.

IHOP Coming to Flowood

I like breakfast food.  I have the best memories as a child of going to IHOP, or some other greasy spoon as a treat for breakfast.  The pancakes just tasted better among the clatter of plates, the smell of coffee, the sizzle of bacon, and the clamor of voices among the patrons.  While I still lament the loss of breakfast at Fannin Mart, I'm sure Odom Family Fun will be eating here soon.

The City of Flowood announced that IHOP (or is it IHOB) is coming to Flowood.  The location is on Lakeland Drive, across Luckney Road from Hartfield Academy.

Thanks to a regular reader for the tip!

Kimmiesweet Cupcake Shop

Kimmiesweett is a new cupcake shop at the Rez.  However, her reputation began at Northpark Mall a while ago.  She is at 1149 Old Fannin Road, next to Fernando's.  Her creations get rave reviews.  Check her out.

Dustin Cardon of The Jackson Free Press recently wrote an article about Kimmieesweett.  Below are excerpts:

Kimberly Ruffin, a Clinton resident and owner of bakery Kimmiesweett (1149 Old Fannin Road, Brandon), recently decided to turn part of her business into a baking-centered co-working space that will also offer classes focused on decorating and the artistry of baked goods.
The menu changes daily and often includes items such as bread pudding, cakes, brownies, cookies, cupcakes and more.
"At Kimmiesweett, you never know what you're going to get until you get here," Ruffin said. "Each day, I get up in the morning and think about what I want to make, and there's something new each day I want to try. I want my bakery to blur the line between structure and chaos, to be something refreshing and full of ideas like what I want people to be able to find for themselves here."

"Coming to this new space has been a blessing both for me and the community," Ruffin said. "When I left Northpark Mall, I wanted my new bakery to be somewhere that people could come in to chat as well as find something sweet. I want it to be like a breath of fresh air every time you come in, like when you're a kid and you walk into a candy shop. We have a space now for people to come and work, share ideas, have meetings over coffee and enjoy the moment."

Alex Deaton Pleads Guilty to Castlewoods Murder

You remember this case:  Alex Deaton murders Heather Robinson in Castlewoods, shoots a jogger on Castlewoods Boulevard as he's leaving the scene, drives to Neshoba County and murders a 69 year old woman in a church, then goes on a nation wide crime spree, eventually being caught out West.

He pleaded guilty yesterday to the Rankin County to murder, aggravated assault and grand theft.

Clarion Ledger article about the plea.
